About Cory
Influenced early on by the beautiful, peaceful surroundings of her native Door County, Wisconsin, Cory claimed faith, reflection and journaling as her personal vocations. While attending the University of Wisconsin - Green Bay she discovered and became instrumental in the development of the burgeoning Women's Studies program, participating as a student panelist for the Freedom to Choose: Creating Alternatives conference and a Women's Studies Committee member.
It was during her time in Green Bay that Cory came to understand her life and purpose to be in working with women in the place she cared for the most, the faith community. Beginning the process of ministerial candidacy within her denomination included considerable soul searching and incredible support from both her church and her women's community. Cory graduated from UW - Green Bay with a double major in Communication and the Arts and Social Change and Development with a minor in Women's Studies.
While attending Moravian Theological Seminary, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Cory completed internships with St. Mark's United Church of Christ as a parish assistant and with the Coalition of Religious and Civic Organizations (CORCO) as a staff organizer. While interning with CORCO Cory created a parish-based goal setting model based in community organizing concepts for the Easton Moravian Church.
At completion of her studies for her Master of Divinity degree, Cory was presented with the Henry Gerdsen Book Award for "Creativity and achievement in seminary studies, community action and worship leadership," and was named Outstanding Moravian Woman Graduate by the Provincial Women's Board of the North American Moravian Church. Cory's ordination to the ministry of the Moravian Church followed.
Over twenty-five years of experience in individual and community ministries gives Cory an informed perception about faith, its implications and struggles in everyday life. Cory focuses her work on helping women understand their faith and how it can become transformational in their lives.
Cory is the creator of the ground-breaking, comprehensive workshop, Challenge Your Faith/Use Your Life. Her recently-published book, You Don't See Many Chickens in Clearance: Essays on Faith and Living, will soon be followed by Missional Lemon Drops: Essays on Faith in Community, due for release in the fall of 2009. |
